Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon was born March 22, 1976. Witherspoon has received numerous awards which include an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has consistently ranked among the world's highest-paid actresses. Time magazine listed her as one of the top 100 influential people around the globe in 2006 and 2015. Forbes also named her one of the 100 Most Powerful Women Worldwide in 2019. Forbes has named her the most successful actress in the world in 2021. Her net worth is estimated at $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 , as an teen. In 1999, Witherspoon made her name with her part of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for portraying Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her performances in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) and in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) brought her greater recognition. She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a career decline, the only box-office success was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen in the form of a producer and played in Wild (2014). She got a second Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. She has since primarily worked on television, producing and starring in a variety of women-led literary adaptations produced by the banner of her company Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20), and Little Fires Everywhere (2020) and all HBO dramas. She won the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the series' first season. She also directed the adaptations to film Gone Girl (2014) and Where the Crawdads Sing (2022).Witherspoon also owns a clothing company, Draper James, and she is involved in women's and children's advocacy organizations. She is a member of the board of directors for the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was appointed Global Ambassador for Avon Products in 2007, being the honorary chair of the charitable Avon Foundation dedicated to women's causes.
